Fowler tipped as NZ selector

AUCKLAND, May 27: New Zealand Cricket may have found last piece of their selection jigsaw puzzle. Having said no thanks to Martin Crowe it seems likely their northern based selector will be former Auckland all-rounder Bill Fowler.

The four-strong panel will be announced next month and it seems a formality that Sir Richard Hadlee, Glenn Turner and coach John Bracewell will fill three places.

However, with Hadlee and Bracewell based in Christchurch and Turner in Wanaka search has been on for a northern based nomination which may have been Fowler.

Speculation John Wright, who recently completed four and a half years as Indian coach could be in the mix was quashed by sources, who maintain he wants anonymity for several months.—Agencies
