Bomb blast at Bari Imam shrine condemned

ISLAMABAD, May 27: Government functionaries and representatives of minorities have condemned the bomb blast at Bari Imam shrine in which a large number of people were killed and injured here on Friday. Terming the incident a cowardly act, Senate Chairman Mohammedmian Soomro hoped that such elements would not succeed in their nefarious designs.

He prayed for peace to the departed souls and fortitude to the bereaved families. He also sympathized with those who were injured in the bomb blast.

The Senate chairman directed the authorities concerned to provide necessary medical facilities to the victims.

APMA CHIEF: All-Pakistan Minorities Alliance (APMA) has condemned the bomb blast at Bari Imam shrine here on Friday.

APMA Chief Shahbaz Bhatti, in a statement, termed the attack a barbaric act, great tragedy and heinous crime against the humanity.

He said this violent act was committed by those elements who wanted to destabilize Pakistan with their devilish designs. No religion allows the killings of innocent people, he said, adding that such elements deserved no mercy.

Mr Bhatti urged the government to invite all mainstream political and religious parties on this issue and formulate an effective strategy to curb growing terrorism and suicide attacks.

He expressed grief over the incident and extended condolences to the bereaved families on behalf of religious minorities in the country.

APP ADDS: National Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Amir Hussain has condemned the blast at Imam Bari shrine and said it was an act of anti-Muslim and anti-state elements who wanted to damage the country and convey wrong message to the world.

In a condolence message, he expressed grief over the loss of lives. Expressing sympathy with the bereaved families, the speaker said perpetrators of this gruesome act would be taken to the task.

He prayed for the departed souls and sympathized with the injured.

Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Ijazul Haq also termed the explosion in Bari Imam shrine compound a terrorist act and condemned it in strongest terms.

“Perpetrators of this act are terrorists and will be dealt with iron hand,” he said while talking to the press at Polyclinic.

The minister directed the hospital staff to extend maximum possible medical facilities to the injured.
