NAWABSHAH: Protest against privatization of PTCL

NAWABSHAH, May 27: On the call of the Unions Action Committee, PTCL employees of the Nawabshah Telegraph Division closed all the offices, including 45 exchanges in Nawabshah and Naushahro Feroze districts on Thursday and continued their protest against the privatisation of PTCL and for acceptance of their demands here on Friday.

PTCL customer service centre, accounts office, main digital exchange Nawabshah, exchanges of Daur, Bandhi, Sakrand, Qazi Ahmed, Daulatpur, Moro, Kandiaro, Naushahro Feroze, Bhirya, Halani and others remained closed.

Workers led by Basheer Daudpota, divisional coordinator of the Unions Action Committee STR-V, Sukkur, Syed Noori Shah, Abdul Qadir Qureshi, Aashiq Kaleri, Ghulam Hyder Soomro, Manzoor Mallah, Ghaffar Channar, took out a protest procession from the digital exchange and culminated at the PTCL customer centre.

Carrying placards and banners, the protesters raised slogans for the acceptance of their demands.

Speaking on the occasion, Basheer Daudpota and Syed Noori Shah said that the workers were united and would continue their struggle against privatisation of PTCL.

They warned that if their demands were not accepted, they would jam the communication system. They said that PTCL offices would remain close till the acceptance of their demands.

PTCL customers and subscribers had to face difficulties as customer services centres, including new telephone connection, wireless connection, telegrams, NWD calls, ISD calls, duplicate bills, correction of bills facilities remained suspended due to strike of PTCL employees.

PTCL union workers in Daur, Bandhi, Sakrand, Qazi Ahmed, Bucheri, 60 Mils, Daulatpur and other towns also staged protest demonstrations against privatisation of PTCL.

HYDERABAD: A large number of workers under the banner of PTCL Unions Action Committee, southern telecommunication region-I, on Friday staged a protest march from the central telecommunication building to the press club against the PTCL privatization and for acceptance of the charter of demands.

They carried placards and banners inscribed with different slogans in support of their demands.

The leaders of the action committee, Rafique Qureshi, Jafar Shah, Hameed Hingoro and Qazi Shakeel said the PTCL employees’ right from Khyber to Karachi were united against the privatisation of PTCL.

KHAIRPUR: Offices of PTCL all over Khairpur district remained locked here on Friday on the call of PTCL employees union.

The employees while observing strike came out on the Mall in front of the telephone exchange, Khairpur, and staged a sit-in.

They are protesting against privatisation of PTCL. Technical and clerical staff also participated in the sit-in. No complaint was attended.

The employees led by Mohammad Qasim Solangi, president, PTCL employees union, Khairpur, and secretary Mohammad Ramzan Chachar continued demonstration during the office hours.
