Textile industry forms two bodies

ISLAMABAD, May 27: The textile industry on Friday constituted two committees for improving efficiency of the powerloom sector and production of long staple cotton in the country. The committees will submit reports to the ministry of textile within a period of one month, which would be presented to the federal cabinet for approval.

An official announcement on Friday said the secretary of ministry of food, agriculture and livestock will be chairman of the committee on production of long staple and organic cotton. Other members of the committee include chairmen of the All Pakistan Textile Mills Association, the Karachi Cotton Association, the All Pakistan Cotton Ginning Association. The cotton commissioner would be secretary of the committee.

The committee on availability of yarn to 250,000 powerloom units will be headed by secretary for textile industry Syed Masood Alam Rizvi. Other members include chairmen of Aptma, the Powerloom Association, Suter Mandi Faisalabad, managing committee member of the Karachi chamber and member of the Pakistan Textile Exporter Association. The textile commissioner will be secretary of the committee.
