‘No compulsion to use new NICs in by-poll’

By Our Correspondent

QUETTA, May 26: Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan, Justice Abdul Hamid Dogar, has said voters in the constituency NA-271 (Kharan-Panjgur) can use either new or old national identity cards to cast votes in the by-polls on Saturday. Speaking at a meeting here on Thursday in connection with by-polls, Justice Dogar directed officials to ensure that the by-election was held in a fair and transparent manner.

The CEC directed the officials that agents of the candidates in the polling stations be given copies of results as soon as the counting process was completed so that no candidate could level charges of unfairness.

Secretary of the Election Commission, Kanwar Mohammad Dilshad, informed the meeting that arrangements for the by-poll had been completed. While referring to local government polls, the official said that they would be held in two phases.
