HYDERABAD: MPAs briefed on uplift schemes

HYDERABAD, May 26: DCO Mohammad Hussain Syed has said that as many as 410 development schemes, recommended by MPAs of defunct Hyderabad district, are being carried out at an estimated cost of Rs235.1323 million under MPAs’ priority programme. He was speaking on the pace of progress of the schemes at a meeting here on Wednesday.

The meeting was attended by MPAs Zahid Bhurgari, Amjad Hussain Shah, Nuzhat Pathan, and Farzana Saeed and representatives of Syed Jalal Shah, Makhdoom Jamiluzzaman, Ali Nawaz Shah Rizvi, Dr Irfan Gul Magsi and Abdul Qadir Soomro and EDOs of all district government. He said Rs194.73306 million had been released for these schemes, of which Rs89.8666 million had so far been utilized.

The DCO gave exact figures of schemes of each MPA of the defunct district including those who were elected on reserved seats. Mr Bhurgari said that due to complicated procedure implementation of development schemes was being delayed.

He said MPAs were running from pillar to post to get their development funds released from the finance department as subsequently funds were lapsed, leaving the schemes incomplete.

He suggested for simplifying the procedure. He said faulty sewerage system of Wasa was also responsible for the destruction of development works. He demanded laying of new drainage system for Abdullah Town, Abdullah Blessing and Hyderabad Bungalows.

MPA Nuzhat Pathan criticized Wasa and HDA for leaving their ongoing development schemes unattended for many years creating difficulties for the people. She called upon the officers concerned not only to confirm about recommended schemes but also inform MPA concerned about completed development schemes.

Amjad Hussain Shah expressing his satisfaction over the performance of executing agencies of the district government, sought implementation of water supply scheme for Tando Jam, repair of the road between Husri to Seri and construction of a high-school building at Tando Qaisar.

Almost all MPAs criticized the management of the district treasury office for creating hurdles in releasing development funds and demanded that the treasury management should be instructed for smooth transaction of development funds.

Replying to various queries of MPAs and their representatives in the meeting, the DCO said a separate scheme of drainage network for Sheedi village Qasimabad had been approved at estimated cost of Rs80 million, besides the tendering of southern treatment plant was also in process.

He said Rs39 million had been earmarked for providing generators at pumping stations of the city, Latifabad and Qasimabad to ensure uninterrupted sewerage system.
