KARACHI, May 26: The Sindh government has decided to engage the scouts in promotion of literacy and to give five per cent additional marks to the scout students as a mark of recognizing their valuable services to the society. This was decided in the 14th session of the Provincial Scout Council, held here on Thursday evening.
Provincial Scout Commissioner Ghulam Ali Pasha, Education Secretary Hashim Laghari and more than 90 members of the council including Pervez Ali Shah attended the meeting. Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad, addressing the meeting, stressed on reactivating the scouts as a vibrant social force in Sindh.
He instructed that the services of scouts for promotion of literacy in the province should be coordinated under an ‘each one teach one programme’. Dr Ibad asked the local governments to play their role to strengthen the scout movement and allocate necessary funds in this regard in their annual budgets.
The meeting decided to grant five per cent additional marks to student scouts and approved other suggestions to encourage the scout movement. It was also decided to make the provincial education secretary, provincial scout commissioner due to his office. It also decided to nominate Syed Pervez Ali Shah and Akhtar Mir as members of executive committee.
It was also decided to take steps for giving possession to the Khairpur Scouts Association of their plot. The meeting lauded the services of Treasurer S H Qureshi and decided to extend his services for the same post for two years.
Dr Ibad on the occasion gave a cheque of Rs100,000 to the senior most scout, besides giving away cheques of Rs3,75,000 amongst the scouts, who had participated in the scout jamboree in Karachi. Meanwhile, the Sindh governor on Wednesday night opened the plaque to inaugurate the manufacturing of 200kW power transformers by Siemens.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that the government besides providing better infrastructure facilities to trade and industry community was also focusing to facilitate the common man. Welcoming the visit of senior Siemens officials to Pakistan and their keenness to invest here, Dr Ibad hoped that it would spur the pouring in of German and other investments here.
He said that besides introducing good governance, the government was also busy to ensure an investor-friendly atmosphere in Sindh. Earlier, in their addresses, senior official of Siemens Dr Klaus Wucherer and the Managing Director of Siemens Pakistan, Suhail Wajahat Siddiqui, lauded the services of the Sindh governor for the economic revival and promotion of industry in the province.
Dr Wucherer said that by coming here he had seen that Pakistan was progressing in the right direction. He hoped that the government of Pakistan would continue to progress on this path.
Dr Wucherer said that the Siemens besides catering the local needs, could also export power transformers to the other countries.—PPI
