MIRPURKHAS: Ensure supply of water to farmers, officials told: Acute shortage in tail-end areas

MIRPURKHAS, May 26: Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim has directed the secretary irrigation to seek help of Rangers to ensure supply of water to tail-end farmers of Kunri, Rahimor and Sanwari distributaries. Speaking at a reception, hosted by Dr Narain Das in Kunri town, he asked officials of the irrigation department to adopt a proper strategy for judicious distribution of water.
Some farmers told the chief minister that they were facing an acute water shortage due to indifferent attitude of irrigation officials. Mr Arbab assured the minority community that funds would be provided to them from the Baitul Mal for looking after of temples.
He announced Rs1 million for construction of a community centre for minority. He also announced the setting up of a mono-technical institute and boys college in Kunri. Sindh Assembly Speaker Syed Muzaffar Hussain Shah said Muslims and minority people would cast their votes in local bodies’ elections. The chief minister also attended a reception hosted by the Bhatti Welfare Association in Bostan.
He announced that girls and boys middle schools of Bostan would be upgraded. He also announced water supply schemes for Haji Abdullah and Haji Ameen villages. Dr Arbab also attended a reception in Kunri Memon village which was arranged by MPA Dost Mohammad Memon and Taluka Nazim Jam Memon.
The chief minister announced that small channels would be cemented while remodelling of Makhi Farash would begin soon by the federal government to be completed in two years. He said the Sindh government had taken over control of Chotiariyoon dam where water was being stored which would be provided during closure of water supply.
He announced upgradation of girls’ college and construction of boys’ college in Kunri. He announced construction of Nabisar Wah water supply scheme and public school in Umerkot. He assured the farmers that remodelling of Nabisar Branch would be done next year.
