Kashif pulls off upset victory

QUETTA, May 25: Fourth-seed Kashif Khan of Sindh recorded a major upset outclassing top-seed Jehanzaib Masood (Sindh) in straight sets to reach the under-19 final of the 3rd Balochistan National junior squash championship at PSB Complex on Wednesday.

Kashif attacked right from the outset taking most of the points from drop shots. He won the first set 9-4 and strengthened his grip on the game in the second overcoming his rival 9-2.

Top-seed Jehanzaib bounced back in the third set to snatch lead 6-2 on one occasion, but Kashif did not let him move a point further till the end, emerging 9-6 victor.

Kashif now meets Punjab’s Farzan Rasheed in the final.

Farzan confirmed his berth in the final beating Majeed Hussain of PAF 9-3, 9-7, 9-3.

In the U-17 semifinal, M Naeem of Sindh overcame Riaz Ali of Punjab 9-2, 9-0, 9-0 to book his berth in the final.

U-17: M Naeem (Sindh) bt Riaz Ali (Punjab) 9-2, 9-0, 9-0; Shehzad Khan (PAF) bt Raza Yaqoob (Punjab) 2-9, 9-4, 9-2, 9-1.

U-15: Shaikh Saquib (Punjab) bt Owais Rahim (Punjab) 9-7, 4-9, 9-5, 9-3; Auranzeb (Punjab) bt Waqas Mehoob (PAF) 9-5, 9-4, 5-9, 9-2.

U-13: Mahad Javed (Sindh) bt Hamza Bukhari (Punjab) 9-5, 9-2, 5-9, 7-9, 9-5; Ahmed Amin (Punjab) bt Raees Khan (Punjab) 9-5, 9-5, 9-5.
