ISLAMABAD, May 25: A workshop on accurate and credible electoral rolls was informed on Wednesday that after updating, the number of voters for the upcoming local government elections had increased to 62.58 million. The two-day consultative workshop was organized by the United Nations Development Programme in collaboration with the Election Commission of Pakistan at the commission’s federal academy.

Speaking on the occasion, Acting Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar directed the officers of the commission to make necessary arrangements for holding local government elections in a transparent manner.

Justice Dogar said accurate and error-free electoral rolls ensured transparent elections. He also asked registration officers and assistant election commissioners to enlist eligible persons as voters after following the process of law.

He also directed field officers to coordinate their activities with district returning officers and other district officers for making necessary arrangements.

Senior officers of the commission, deputy election commissioners and assistant election commissioners participated in the workshop.

Earlier, Election Commission Secretary Kanwar Mohammad Dilshad said the commission had already updated electoral rolls.

Maximum time was provided to the public to get their names enrolled as voters, he said, adding that paper-free environment was also being introduced in the commission to implement the policy on e-government.
