WANA, May 25: Six members of a family were killed and three others were wounded in a bomb blast in the Makin area of the South Waziristan Agency on Tuesday night, officials said. They said the bomb, planted along the outer wall of the house of Abresham Khan Mahsud, exploded in the late hours. The blast was so powerful that four rooms of the mud house collapsed and the entire village was shaken.

Makin Peace Committee president Ahmad Shah Mahsud told Dawn by telephone from Makin that a son, daughter, sister-in-law, nephew and two nieces of Abresham Khan had been killed in the blast. Three other members of the family were injured and taken to hospital.

Villagers recovered four bodies from the debris.

The peace committee president said the affected family had no feud and the blast appeared to be the handiwork of militants.

Abresham Khan’s younger brother Loe Khan is a Subedar with the Mahsud Scouts.

The Makin peace committee has asked the area people to hand over the culprits within three days and warned that action would be taken against the responsible people according to the tribal traditions if that was not done.

KILLED: Unidentified people shot dead a young man in a motel in Wana on Tuesday night, officials said.

They said that the deceased had been identified as the son of Khwaja Din and belonged to the Ahmadzai Wazir tribe. His name could not be ascertained.
