KARACHI: Permission for religious gatherings must: Rauf

KARACHI, May 25: Sindh Home Minister Rauf Siddiqui has said that though there is no ban on religious gatherings, but obtaining a prior permission for the same was a must. Talking to a delegation of Sunni Tahreek at his office here on Wednesday, the minister said that if any religious group was threatened while convening a gathering, he should immediately be contacted. He suggested that the religious leaders while addressing preaching sessions should take care of others’ feelings.

The meeting which was held in a cordial atmosphere was also attended by CCPO Tariq Jameel. Discussing the law and order in Karachi and other parts of the province, they agreed that a stern action would be taken against the violators of social peace and harmony, irrespective of their political affiliation.

The Sunni Tehreek leaders assured the interior minister that they would fully cooperate with the government to ensure law and order.

The minister assured the delegation that killers of innocent people would be arrested at any cost and no leniency would be allowed in this regard.

He asked the CCPO to review the cases filed against the ST leaders and inform him about the details. —PPI
