KARACHI, May 25: The City Nazim, Niamatullah Khan, laid the foundation stone of two more model parks, one in Keamari and the other in North Nazimabad Town – named as Fateh Park. The city government, in its efforts to make Karachi beautiful, has already established 10 model parks for the public while 14 are under construction. At least eight of these are mega parks, which are being constructed on minimum of 10 acres each.

Speaking at the two foundation stone laying functions, Mr Niamat said grievances regarding deficient recreational facilities would go away after the construction of model parks.

He pointed out that construction of flyovers, schools, colleges, hospitals had brought improvement in the city’s infrastructure.

The nazim said in order to fulfil the objectives of devolution of power to the grassroots level, the city government had got development works executed through union councils. About Rs16.3 million were given to each UC during the last three years.

He said a decision had been taken for constructing a flyover between Shah Faisal Colony and Korangi, which would reduce the distance to mere five-minute drive.

Speaking about health facilities, Mr Niamat said that the city government’s hospital for heart diseases would be opened for public in the last week of this month. Besides, 10 centres for providing emergency aid to heart patients would also start functioning.

Model parks under construction include the Nanakwara, Bakhtawar and TPX model parks.

Other 11 model parks include the Gadap, Aziz Bhatti Shaheed, Sultanabad and ST-II Clifton model parks, Masjid Noor in North Karachi, Hipo Drum Clifton, Damn-i-Koh North Nazimabad, Fateh Park North Nazimabad, Maulai Park PECHS, Bagh Ibn-i-Qasim and Gattar Baghicha Park.

Of these the Bagh Ibn-i-Qasim is being constructed on 100 acres and the Gattar Baghicha on 163 acres.

The Nazim North Nazimabad Town, Fasihuddin Siddiqui, on the occasion said it was the town’s good luck that three model parks - Damn-i-Koh, Fateh Park and Masjid Noor Model Park – were being constructed here, and all three were mega projects.

TEA TRADERS: The City Nazim, Niamatullah Khan, held a meeting with the President of the Tea Association, Mohammed Hanif Janoo, Vice-President KCCI Abdul Majeed Haji Mohammed, Nazim UC-5, Jamshed Town Imran Saeed Baghpati and representatives of other tea traders.
