KARACHI, May 25: The provincial anti-corruption court issued on Wednesday non-bailable warrants for the arrest of sacked provincial minister Imtiaz Shaikh and his brother Maqbool Shaikh in a land corruption case. The court ordered the prosecution agency to arrest the two accused and produced them before it on June 10.
The two brothers were booked for getting 1,600 acres in the Scheme-33 in Malir allotted in their names through forged documents.
Besides, an anti-terrorism court issued non-bailable warrants for the arrest of sacked provincial minister Imtiaz Shaikh and five co-accused in a kidnapping for ransom case. Judge Haq Nawaz Baloch of the ATC-5 ordered the police to arrest the accused and produce them before the court on June 7.
Imtiaz Shaikh, Agha Asghar, Nasir Mehmood, Mehmood Zakir, Mohammed Ashfaq and Ateeq Ahmed Siddiqui have been shown absconding accused in the case pertaining to the kidnapping of complainant Zafar Iqbal’s 12-year-old son. Mahfooz is the lone arrested accused in the case.
The complainant alleged in the FIR, lodged at the Zaman Town police station on March 28, that the accused kidnapped his son, Umer Iqbal, from his house on the directives of Imtiaz Shaikh and they told his wife to pay Rs1.5 million as ransom for the release of the boy.
It was alleged that the victim was later released on the payment of Rs700,000 at the residence of Imtiaz Shaikh.
Meanwhile, the additional district and sessions judge, Abrar Hussain F. Memon, issued non-bailable warrants for the arrest of former senator Saifur Rehman, his brother Mujeebur Rehman, former IG of Sindh Rana Maqbool Ahmed, former DIG of Karachi Farooq Ameen Qureshi, and former superintendent of Landhi jail Najaf Mirzi in a case of attempt on the life of Asif Ali Zardari.
The accused were booked in the case on the complaint of Mr Zardari, who alleged that an attempt was made on his life on May 17 and May 19, 1999 when he was in police custody.
The judge ordered the police to arrest the accused and produce them before the court on June 12.
