KARACHI: MQM shows concern over gastro-related deaths

KARACHI, May 25: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement coordination committee has expressed concern over the deaths caused by gastroenteritis in the interior of Sindh, shortage of water in Karachi and Hyderabad, and frequent prolonged power breakdowns in Karachi. The situation was discussed in a meeting of coordination committee, which was held at Khurshid Begum Memorial Hall Azizabad here on Wednesday.

Various proposals regarding the patients of gastroenteritis, water shortage and electricity breakdowns were presented and contemplated in the meeting.

The meeting expressed its grief and sorrow over the deaths caused by gastroenteritis and stressed the government to take immediate and practical steps to control the decease.

The committee alleged that some nazims and so-called political leaders were creating water and power crises deliberately for their vested interests.

The meeting appealed the masses to express patience on the water shortage and load shedding and foil the conspiracies through their unity.

Meanwhile, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement announced that it would observe the 15th anniversary of martyrs of “Pakka Qila Tragedy” on May 26.

The Muttahida will hold province-wide Quran Khuwani and Fateha Khuwani gatherings to pay homage to the martyrs on Thursday. The main gathering will be held at Khurshid Begum Memorial Hall, Azizabad at 3pm.

Similarly, big gatherings will also be held at party’s zonal offices in Hyderabad, Thatta, Mirpurkhas, Sukkur, Nawabshah, Sanghar, Jacobabad, Larkana, Shikarpur, Khairpur, Naushero Firoze, Badin, Dadu, Ghotki and Kashmore, after Zuhr.

In this connection, MQM chief Altaf Hussain in his message issued from London paid tribute to the martyrs of Pakka Qila and said that it was the black chapter of Pakistan’s history which would never be forgotten. He said the sacrifices of the people who were martyred in the tragedy would never go waste and the aims of our struggle would be achieved.

He appealed to MQM workers and people to fully participate in anniversary’s gatherings and pay tribute to the martyrs. —PPI
