People affected by Barotha project get compensation

SWABI, May 24: The Ghazi Barotha Development Authority is reported to have paid Rs390 million to the people of Swabi district affected by the Ghazi Barotha Hydel Project. Sources said that efforts were under way to meet the demands of other affected people who were waiting for compensation.
However, the amount to be paid to the remaining people was not disclosed.
The sources said that the authority had given Rs45 million to the people of affected regions under a self-employment scheme.
They said that if the people properly utilized the funds, the scheme would be beneficial for them and added that the monitoring of the scheme had shown positive results.
Another step taken by the authority, sources said, was the imparting of professional training to about 5,000 youth to enable them to get employment. They added that some of the trained people had got jobs.
About 900 organizations, sources said, had been established to work for welfare of the affected people under the supervision of the authority.
The authority, sources said, had completed 290 projects in different areas of Swabi, Attock and Ghazi Tehsils at the cost Rs75 million.
