BADIN, May 24: Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim has said the government is taking steps for improving the irrigation system, included lining of watercourses. Speaking at a public meeting at the Shaheed Fazil Rahu town on Tuesday, the chief minister said desilting of waterways would help improve agriculture production and asked growers to get their watercourses lined.
Earlier, the chief minister undertook an aerial survey of the Jhol branch, where desilting was being carried out at a cost of Rs5.3 million. The process would benefit 57,000 acres in taluka Shaheed Fazil Rahu.
Meanwhile, Rs36 million would be spent on the desilting of 199 miles of waterways in Badin district, including 98 miles of all water branches of taluka Shaheed Fazil Rahu that would cost Rs10.932 million.
