SC to hear Sindh appeal today: Reinstatement of nazims

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, May 24: The Supreme Court will take up the Sindh government’s appeal on Wednesday against reinstatement of four nazims and two naib nazims of Larkana, Mirpurkhas, Jacobabad and Dadu by the Sindh High Court. A division bench comprising Justice Hamid Ali Mirza and Justice Mian Shakirullah Jan will hear the appeal moved by Sindh’s Additional Advocate-General Qazi Khalid Ali.

The Sindh government has requested Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Nazim Hussain Siddiqui for early hearing of the matter since the 10-day stay granted by the Sindh High Court to challenge its decision will end on Wednesday.

The nazims and naib nazims are Khursheed Ahmed Junejo, Pir Shafqat Shah Jillani, Malik Asad Sikandar Khan, Mir Shabbir Ali Bijarani, Nazir Ahmed Bhugio and Mohammad Yunus. They were relieved by the Sindh government from their offices after four new revenue districts — Qambar, Umerkot, Jamshoro and Kashmor – were created under the Sindh Local Government Ordinance (SLGO) 2001.

The nazims and naib nazims, belonging to the Pakistan People’s Party, were relieved on Dec 22, 2004, through a notification issued under Section 186(2) of the SLGO. District coordination officers were directed to take charge of the four districts.
