KARACHI, May 24: Police arrested four armed suspects after a hostage taking drama at a bungalow in Cosmopolitan Society, Gurumandir, on Tuesday. Police said that four armed men entered the house of Muhammad Ashraf in Cosmopolitan Society and held the inmates hostage. In the meantime, his neighbours informed the police on 15. Subsequently, police reached the spot and managed to arrest two of the suspects, however, their associates continued to hold the inmates hostage inside the house.
After prolonged negotiations, the remaining two suspects surrendered themselves to the police. Four TT pistols were recovered from their possession.
The suspects were identified as Nabi Bukhsh, Maqsood Ahmed, Alamgir and Muhammad Naeem. Police said that the gang of four confessed of committing dacoities in the area for past some months.
ACCIDENT: A young boy died in a road accident in Garden.
Police said that Adil, 14, died in a hit-and-run accident near Shoe Market. The boy was taken to the Civil Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
WOUNDED: A union councillor suffered bullet wounds in Gulistan-i-Jauhar on Tuesday.
Police said that UC councillor Muhammad Husain had gone to condole the death of a young man in Husain Hazara Goth on Sunday night. During condolence, a stray bullet hit his shoulder. He was rushed to nearby hospital for treatment.
The councillor later lodged an FIR against Khair Muhammad and others at the Gulistan-i-Jauhar police station.
In New Karachi, two men were wounded while posing resistance against motorcycle snatchers.
Police said Sajid and Akber were intercepted near Do Minute Chowrangi by armed suspects. As they tried to pose resistance, they were shot at. The suspects took away the motorcycle.
FEARED DEAD: A five-year-old boy who had fallen into the Lyari River on Monday in Ziaul Haq Colony could not be recovered till Tuesday night.
Police said that Zeeshan had fallen into the river while playing close to the river’s bank in Gulshan-i-Iqbal on Monday.
