Karachi, May 24: The Sindh government has decided to implement the Karachi Security Plan to beef up the security of the provincial capital. This was decided here on Tuesday in a pre-budget meeting held at the Chief Minister’s House with Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim in the chair. The meeting also reviewed other matters related to the proposed allocations for the next financial year. The meeting was informed that the maximum allocation had been proposed in education sector, second to law and order, and then the irrigation and health.
The meeting decided to follow the Karachi Security Plan under which prompt measures will be adopted to maintain the security in the provincial capital in a befitting manner. In this connection the police stations of Karachi would be computerized and cameras will be installed at various road junctions to monitor and detect the activities of criminals.
Dr Arbab underlined the need to increase salary of police staff to the level of police staff of the Punjab province. He expressed his satisfaction over the performance of police and said that that there was no big compliant against them, who are scarifying their lives during the efforts to curb the activities of anti-social elements, dacoits and criminals.
He said that the vehicles of police department lying in junk in various police stations would be got repaired. He said that police vehicles, mobiles, wagons, prisoners’ vans, etc, were lying in a poor shape and they need urgent repair.
He said that at least 10 police stations will be computerized under the IT software and central command on emergent basis.
The meeting was also informed that the federal government was providing five mobile / fixed scanning units, which will be installed at every entry point of Karachi. Besides, the federal government has approved a scheme of computerizing of various police stations and as a first instance 46 police stations were being provided with the facility.
The IGP Sindh told the meeting that there were 477 police stations and 270 police posts in the province and 80 per cent of the budget was being spent on salary and 20 on the other heads.
The meeting also discussed various proposals regarding the departments of education, health, irrigation, revenue, excise and taxation and others.
The meeting was attended by Senior Minister for Finance Sardar Ahmed, Additional Chief Secretary Local Government Mohammad Saleem Khan, Senior Member Board of Revenue Syed Anwar Haider, and secretaries of various provincial department and other senior officials.
ZAKAT DISTRIBUTION: Sindh Chief Minister Dr. Arbab Ghulam Rahim has warned that corruption in zakat distribution will not be tolerated.
“Zakat is a trust and its just and correct distribution is a religious obligation”, he said while reviewing in detail the system of zakat distribution and procedure at a meeting of Provincial Zakat Council held at Chief Minister House.
Dr Arbab pointed out that he had received complaints from various parts of the province about misappropriation in zakat funds and its non-delivery to rightful persons.—PPI/APP
