HYDERABAD: Parts of two districts declared calamity-hit Bureau Report
HYDERABAD, May 24: The additional relief commissioner, Sindh, has declared two dehs of Sanghar district and 25 dehs of Umerkot district as calamity affected area due to drought. A notification issued here on Monday said the Ranahu and Ranak Dahar dehs of Khipro taluka, Sanghar district, and dehs Dinore, Shekhro, Doodhar, Laplo, Mokhal Beh, Horingo, Khalrai Thar, Umerkot Thar, Kharore Thar, Bahrai Thar, Dietbeh, Jehhero Thar, Sinohi Thar, Sabhri Thar, Thar Samo, Vehro Thar, Nabisar Thar, Bajar Thar, Rejari Thar, Sadori Thar, Kaplore, Soonhari, Lalabeh, Kachooli and Chhor Thar of Umerkot taluka and district were affected by drought due to non-occurrence of sufficient rains during monsoon 2004.
The dehs has been declared affected under section 3 of the Sindh National Calamities (prevention and relief) Act 1958.
MUET: The Mehran University of Engineering and Technology alumni on Tuesday organized annual get to gather at Jamshoro campus with a view to bringing all graduate members on one platform.
Prof Dr B.S. Chaudhry, founder life member and former general secretary said the alumni had played a significant role in launching educational and motivational campaign for achievement of national goals by inculcating better understanding between senior graduates and students of the MUET.
Engineer Shafiq Hyder Musavi, suggested various short-term and long-term measures to improve image and performance of the association.
He said such gatherings played an important role in sharing ideas and for maintaining cooperation between members to foster spirit of cohesiveness.
Prof (Dr) Rafique Abro, dean of the faculty of electrical, electronic and computer system engineering and chief guest of the occasion said alumni must put in huge efforts to promote the alma mater.
Engineer Ashfaq Memon, Sindh irrigation secretary emphasized that alumni should give professional and expert advice and cooperation to the students for jobs and establishment of their career.
Engineer G.S. Kandhir, project director also spoke on the occasion.
SU: The University of Sindh has announced that LL.M classes for 2005 session will start from June 3.
Announcing admission schedule for LL.M classes, the university authorities said though the date for submitting admission forms had expired on May 23 but on the request of LLM candidates, vice-chancellor Mazharul Haq Siddiqui extended date up to May, 31.
The director admissions announced that admission forms for LL.M programme are available at branches of the Habib Bank Limited Jamshoro and old campus on payment of Rs500.
He notified that no extension would be granted.
He said that regular classes for the first batch of LL.M classes for the academic session of 2005 would commence from June 3.
