KARACHI, May 23: Displaying technical expertise and imaginative dummy play Saeed Ansari-Afzal Shaikh won by an excellent score of 63.58 per cent the opening programme of the weekend bridge, the Scramble Mitchel Movement, organized by Karachi Bridge Association on Sunday.

Twenty-eight pairs contested for the weekly title.

Anwer Kemal-Raza Naqvi finished second with 59.38 per cent and Iqbal Baig- Iqbal Hyder finished third with a difference of 58.29 per cent.

Anwer Kizilbash-Mahmood Naqvi topped with 59.16 per cent from the other direction. Tazeen Nehal-Fazla Ahmed scored 57.42 per cent and Hasan Sajjad-Zafar Zaki made 52.33 per cent for the second and third spots.

In the Swiss Movement contested by fourteen teams Candyland’s Ziaullah Baig, Hamid Mohiuddin, Rashid Jafer, Khalid Mohiuddin and Shahab Khan netted 92 Victory Points (VPs) to claim the title.

They won four matches from Abedies 17-13, Chandna 18-12, EFU 25-5 and Haider 18-12 losing the only match to Four Bidders Club 14-16.

Haider comprising Iqbal Haider, Rashid Shamsi, F A Naeem and Khalid Zaki finished second with 92 VPs.

Earlier, the team won 25-0 from Winsom, 19-11 from Maq and 22-8 from Four Bidders Club. They started with a deficit score of 14-16 against Alliance.

Maq scored 90 VPs for the third place, winning four matches from Four Bidders 24-6, EFU 22-8, Mahmood 16-14 and Four Bidders Club 17-13, losing only one match to Haider 11-19 in the third round.

Meanwhile, Dialdas Club Hyderabad is hosting the 4th All-Pakistan Dialdas Club bridge tournament on May 29. Karachi Bridge Association will provide the club all the technical and material support.—APP
