By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, May 23: Tension prevailed in the streets and lanes of the densely populated old areas of Lyari on Monday at the funeral of Abdul Rahim Baloch, brother of the notorious gang leader Rehman Dakait. Heavy deployment of police and Rangers was made in the area to meet any eventuality.

Police had shot dead Abdul Rahim Baloch alias Kana in, what they called, an encounter with the members of Rehman Dakait’s gang late Sunday night in Yousuf Goth, Baldia Town. Rahim Kana’s body was handed over to his family in the afternoon.

The body was first taken to Rehman Dakait’s family house in a locality, known as Afshani Gali, in Kalakot area.

“We had taken precautionary measures and deployed police in the locality. We had also requested the Rangers to be there to meet any eventuality,” Lyari TPO Omar Shahid told Dawn.

He said that the effective crackdown on the criminal gang had caused a deep dent in their network and the gangsters could retaliate any time. Therefore, the police were fully alert, he added.

Panic gripped the whole locality while shops were closed and people preferred to stay indoors.

The coffin of the deceased was taken to Yousuf Goth for burial and no untoward incident was reported.
