Ex-prisoner confirms Quran desecration

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, May 22: A Kohistani, Mohammad Saghir, who was released from the Guantanamo Bay prison last year, said on Sunday that he had witnessed American investigation and prison officials desecrating the Holy Quran and ridiculing Islamic tenants a number of times.

Speaking at a convention organized by the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) here, Saghir said although he had been asked by the Pakistani officials to keep quiet about his ordeal but he did not fear anybody except the Almighty.

He recalled that he had witnessed American soldiers throwing copies of the Holy Quran on the ground with contempt to humiliate the prisoners, and said that they also used to stop them from offering prayers and reciting the Holy Quran.

He said that the beards of all prisoners, including his, were shaved off by the soldiers.

Saghir revealed that the prisoners were subjected to all kinds of torture so as to force them to confess to crimes they had never committed.

He said the prisoners were also photographed in the nude so as to ridicule them.
