Coventry century helps Zimbabwe ‘A’ triumph

By Our Sports Reporter

KARACHI, May 22: An unbeaten century by Charles Coventry inspired Zimbabwe ‘A’ to a 51-run victory in the three-match one-day series against Pakistan ‘A’ at the Harare Club Sports on Saturday. Coventry hammered an unbeaten 102 as the home team made 232 for seven in 50 overs after being asked to bat first by Pakistan ‘A’ skipper Misbahul Haq. The wicket-keeper/batsman struck seven fours and six in his 148-ball knock.

Opener Stuart Matsikenyeri was the other notable scorer with an 89-ball 55, including six boundaries.

The visitors were bowled out for 181 after crashing to 96 for seven.

Tailender Mohammad Khalil lashed four sixes in making 39 off 44 balls to emerge as the top-scorer.

Blessing Mahwire picked up three for 44. But it was Bryan Strang, the former Test left-arm medium-pacer, who made a welcome return with the scalps of Faisal Athar and Pakistan ‘A; vice-captain Hasan Raza.
