PML men urged to end differences

By Our Staff Reporter

LAHORE, May 22: Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi urged ministers, assembly members and nazims of his party to play their role in the implementation of government’s people-welfare agenda and social justice with the force of their unity and better organization. He was talking to Rahim Yar Khan MNAs who called on him here on Sunday. Industries Minister Jehangir Tarin Khan, Ministers of State for Local Government and Foreign Affairs Zafar Warraich and Makhdoom Khusrao Bakhtiar, Rahim Yar Khan nazim Makhdoom Ahmad Mahmood and UAE’s Honorary Adviser Chaudhry Munir Ahmad were also present on the occasion.

The chief minister said the PML’s elected representatives should promote collectivity rather than individuality, resolving all their mutual differences amicably. Besides developing mutual contact, he said they must also keep a liaison with the people.

He said the ruling party would have to counter the PPP, PML-N and other political parties in the forthcoming local government elections. Therefore, he said it was necessary to let the people know all the steps taken for their welfare and betterment.

The PML, he said, had founded the country and it still provided a guarantee to its solidarity. That was why its membership was being given top priority. The efficiency of all assembly members and nazims would be judged through their role in the membership campaign, he said.

Earlier, the chief minister said that benefits of the reforms introduced by the government in agriculture, industrial, education and other sectors had started reaching the people. It was incumbent upon the ministers and assembly members to advance this reform programme with unity.

He said no attention had been paid to the development and progress of southern Punjab in the past. But the present government had launched development projects there on a priority basis, giving a Rs12 billion development package for it.

The chief minister said the government was giving practical shape to projects relating to availability of clean drinking water, educational facilities and promotion of agriculture in southern Punjab on a priority basis.

With the reforms in education sector the drop out rate of girl students had reduced in southern Punjab. The primary health care programme in Rahim Yar Khan had been a success, playing an important role in providing health cover to the people.

He lauded the assistance by the UAE in projects like water supply and road network in Rahim Yar Khan and other nearby areas.

The delegation members assured the chief minister that they would strengthen the party with concerted efforts.
