KARACHI: Dakait’s brother shot dead

KARACHI, May 22: A brother of notorious ringleader Rehman Dakait was shot dead in what police claimed to be an encounter on Sunday night. The Industrial Crime Unit of the police got a tip-off that some members of the Rehman Dakait gang were hiding in Yusuf Goth.

A police party, headed by DSP Aslam Khan, raided the place in Yusuf Goth, Baldia Town, where a shootout took place between the criminals and the police. As a result, one criminal identified as Rahim alias Kana was killed.

He was the brother of Rehman Dakait, carrying a head money of Rs300,000 and allegedly involved in more than 30 cases of murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping for ransom, etc.

Police said his accomplices including Noor Mohammad alias Baba Ladla, Ghafoor alias Chhotu, Usman alias Kekra and others escaped.

STEPMOTHER KILLED: A youth killed his stepmother after she slapped him over some petty matter.

Police said that Mohammad Yousuf, 17, stabbed his stepmother, Asma Shakoor, 40, in North Nazimabad on Sunday. He then escaped from the house.

The woman was rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. She died of excessive bleeding. Taimuria police have registered a case.

In Gulistan-i-Jauhar, a man was killed in a dispute over a piece of land on Sunday. Police said that some builders came to Mughal Hazara Goth to take possession of a plot. Local residents resisted their move claiming that they had already got a stay order. Heated arguments followed during which the builders opened fire resulting in the death of one, Sarwar Hussain.

People of the area caught hold of the armed men and handed them over to the police.

ACCIDENT: A young man, Anwar Din, died in a collision between a truck and a taxi on Rashid Minhas Road on Sunday.

Police said that the accident occurred on the single track where dual traffic had been allowed due to the closure of the other track for construction work.
