LAHORE, May 21: If nothing goes wrong, six-year-old dark-bay gelding, Young Emperor, thrice beaten in as much of his outings, looks a better proposition to pick up the spoils in the feature event of the Lahore Summer Meeting at the Racecourse on Sunday. The gelding, a progeny of Burnish out-of-Miss Pico, Young Emperor is contesting in the Pakpattan Plate, class IV division I handicap race to be run over 1300 metres.
There are only six runners barring last-minute withdrawals.
Four-year-old colt, Sunny Kid and top-weight, Lucky Winner (9-7), may prove thorns on Young Emperor’s way to victory. This will be the sixth race of the day.
Three-year-old filly, Who Dares, beaten on her first try out a fortnight ago, should make amends and win the supporting and fifth event, Pakpattan Plate class IV division II over 1300 metres distance.
She should be followed by Empire Maker and Fidel Castro among ten runners, if there are no last-minute withdrawals.
Trump Coup, who was beaten by Fidel Castro on May Day meeting over the sprinting distance of 1000 metres, should have the better of his nine rivals in the fourth race.
This is a class IV division III handicap race to be gone over 1300 metres. Puma The Great and Wall Street are the next best.
In all, seven events have been carded for the afternoon programme. The first three and the seventh and last, are to be contested over the sprinting distance of 1000 metres while the fourth, fifth and sixth event will be going over 1300 metres.
Meanwhile, the Lahore Race Club (LRC) has issued a notification informing all the owners, trainers and other concerned persons that the LRC stewards has decided to stop the race for four race-days.
Under the decision races will not be held from June 20 to July 17. The decision is aimed at giving the horses rest for about a month during scorching summer.
