Safeena-e-Arab is on the hat trick trail
KARACHI, May 21: Syed Nadeem Anwar’s six-year-old bay horse Safeena-e-Arab, should go on to complete his hat trick of wins, when the Winter Gymkhana Race Meeting gets under way at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday afternoon. Participating in the last event on the programme, Safeena-e-Arab will contest with six other runners going over the sprinting distance of six furlongs.
Although carrying a heavy load of 9-8 on his back, Safeena-e-Arab, still starts off as our day’s best and should pass the winning post ahead of the rest of the field, with stable companion Birj-ul-Arab following him home in his wake.
All in all eight events have been drawn up for Sunday. Six events will be contested over the sprinting distance of five furlongs with the last two going over six.
The first race begins at 2.00 p.m.
Another runner that should not lose on Sunday, is the four-year-old bay colt Shore Footed, a sibling from Naseeb-e-Dushman out of Nis Nas participating in the seventh race with eight other runners.
Going over the sprinting distance of six furlongs three weeks ago, the bay colt finished third, behind Rahil Jan and Safeena-e-Arab, after leading the field for most part of the race and then ran out of steam a furlong from the winning post.
Going over six furlongs once again Shore Footed should make amends once again, with Bahar-e-Arab and Fakhar-e-Sanghar in close pursuit. In the opener, the eight-year-old bay mare Roop Ki Rani is our fancy to win the five furlong sprint from Royal Wisdom and Super Time. Jaguar is fancied in these columns to pick up the spoils in the second event with On The Run and Lucky Seven also making their presence felt.
In the next race, the bay horse Gold Disc should make it two triumphs in a row.
However,Gold Disc will have to work up a sweat in overcoming the likes of Street Fighter and First Shot.
Silent Angel, if ticking, should win the fourth race hands down, with Silent Love and Casanova battling it out for the second spot.
About two weeks ago, Arab Hi Arab ridden by A. Aziz, finished second behind Blind Date going over five furlongs. If ticking again, Arab Hi Arab should pass the winning post ahead of Leopard and Issey Miyke.
Last Sunday the thoroughbred dark bay filly Summer Wine with apprentice rider Waheed Baran in the saddle, was beaten by ¾ of a length by the bay filly Savabeel, on course for a hat trick of victories for her owner Murtaza R. Hussain.
The winner was clocked at one minute 6 4/5 seconds going over the five furlong journey.
On Sunday Summer Wine is carrying 9-5 on her back but with another seven pounds she should win the sixth race after a keen tussle with Jan-e-Arab and Snake River.
All said and done, an interesting afternoon of horse racing awaits the racing fans.
