MoU signed to control AIDS


ISLAMABAD, May 21: The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/Aids (UNAIDS) and United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) here to prevent and control the spread of deadly Aids in Pakistan in next three years.

D. Aldo Landi UNAIDS Co-ordinator and Jorge Sequira, Unesco representative in Pakistan, signed the MoU to prevent Aids through spreading information through education.

The World Bank has advanced $47 million loan from which 45 per cent as a grant for project in next 5 years.

The UNAIDS will support Unesco and the UN’s country team efforts on HIV/Aids in leadership and advocacy for effective action on epidemic, strategic information to guide policy and action, civil society engagement and partnership development, tracking, monitoring and evaluation of the epidemic and the response, and financial, technical and political resources mobilisation.—PPI
