KARACHI, May 19: The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has asked people to surrender their currency notes of Rs5 denomination in exchange for coins of the same value by June 30, 2005. The bank reminded the people on Thursday that from July 1, notes of Rs5 denomination would no longer be considered legal tender.

People could also surrender Rs5 notes to the field offices of the SBP Banking Services Corporation, it said. “All branches of commercial banks and field offices of SBP Banking Services Corporation throughout the country will freely collect/accept Rs5 bank notes,” a SBP press release said.
