QUETTA, May 19: The Balochistan Assembly in its Thursday session adopted several resolutions, one of which condemned the desecration of the Holy Quran by US interrogators in the Guantanamo Bay prison and publication of a cartoon insulting Pakistan in daily Washington Times.
The resolution was tabled by Provincial Minister Maulana Faiz Mohammad and unanimously adopted by the house.
Speaker Jamal Shah Kakar presided over the session. Britain’s Deputy High Commissioner to Pakistan Hamesh Daniel, who is on a visit to Quetta, witnessed the proceedings for some time.
The house passed another resolution of Shafiq Ahmed Khan of the People’s Party Parliamentarians, urging the provincial government to amend the prison rules to pave way for prison reforms and provide the prisoners with basic facilities on the pattern of the NWFP.
Yet another resolution, tabled by Shah Zaman Rind, asked the federal government to direct the National Highway Authority to expand and make the Quetta-Jacobabad road duel carriageway since the existing narrow road caused difficulties for commuters and accidents.
