KHAR (Bajaur Agency), May 17: Miscreants blew up buildings of two girls schools in Salarzai tehsil of the Bajaur Agency on Monday night, official sources said. They said the directorate of education, Fata, in collaboration with the Pakistan Education Foundation had recently set up schools in the remote Kandaro village in Salarzai tehsil where about 150 students were enrolled.
Assistant Political Agent of Khar Khaista Rehman told Dawn that unidentified people had planted explosives inside the buildings which went off in the late hours of Monday. The explosions damaged the buildings, reducing furniture and schools record to ashes, he said.
Mr Khaista Rehman said four suspects had been arrested and personnel of levy force had been deployed at other schools run by the Education Foundation. Earlier, a community school building was blown up in the agency where security forces recently arrested 14 suspected militants, including some foreigners.
Zulfiqar Ali adds from Peshawar: Political authorities seized arms and ammunition in the Kurram Agency on Tuesday and arrested two people, including an Afghan national, sources said.
They said security forces had stopped a vehicle at the Alizai checkpoint, Lower Kurram near the Afghan border on suspicion, and seized nine rockets, eight launchers, two anti-personnel mines and ammunition from it.
Two people, including vehicle driver Akhtar Zaman, and Barukai Khan, an Afghan national, have been arrested who were being interrogated. An official said that weapons were brought from Afghanistan’s Khost province. Islamabad recently complained that suspected elements smuggle weapons from Afghanistan.
