Ghazala on goal spree

LAHORE, May 17: Four goals in a row by striker Ghazala Parveen propelled Lahore Colours to a 6-0 win over Dera Ghazi Khan on the first day of the Chief Minister Punjab Gold Cup women’s hockey tournament at the National Hockey Stadium on Tuesday. Sheeba put Lahore 2-0 ahead scoring field goals within a short span of four minutes. She drew first blood in the 11th minute slamming a field goal in the 7th minute and doubled the lead in the 11th minute.

Ghazala took it upon herself from here and struck in the 13th, 14th, 42nd and the 50th minutes to complete the tally.

Saima Erum registered another hat trick of the day to help Bahawalpur beat Faisalabad Colours 3-2. She scored goals in the 15th, 32nd and the 40th minutes.

Faisalabad tried to make a comeback and scored back-to-back goals through Ambreen Liaqat (45th minute) and Mehwish Ali (48th minute) but only to reduce the lead 3-2.

In another high-scoring match, Faisalabad crushed Sargodha 9-0.Saman Munir (4th, 24th minute), Azra Nasir (33rd, 46th minute), Shahida (39th, 54th minute) and Aqeela Nasim (42nd, 53rd minutes) pumped in two goals each. Sonia Khan added a goal in the 29th minute.

Lahore Whites carved out a 3-1 win against Rawalpindi. Amina Meer drew the first blood in the 15th minute to put Lahore 1-0 ahead. Erum Bukhari made the score 2-0 three minutes later.

Rawalpindi slammed a goal through Munazza in the 29th minute, while Rabia increased the lead for the winners scoring a goal in the 32nd minute.

Wednesday’s fixtures:

Lahore Whites vs Multan, Faisalabad Whites vs Gujranwala, Faisalabad Colours vs Rawalpindi, Lahore Colours vs Sargodha.
