Executive committee to decide on squash incident
ISLAMABAD, May 17: The Executive Committee of the Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) that meets in Rawalpindi later this month is expected to decide on an incident involving Farhan Mahboob and his coach Rehmat Khan. A disciplinary committee of the PSF had last week slapped a six-month ban on young Farhan and warned Rehmat after the two were involved in a finger-wagging match that eventually led to a scuffle.
Squash secretary, Wng. Cdr Zulfiqar Ahmed said on Tuesday that both parties involved were likely to appeal against the decision of the disciplinary committee, which had given them 14 days to do so.
“The executives will discuss the matter in the meeting and seal the matter.”
Farhan, reacting angrily, had said that the PSF would have done well to ban him for six years while his father Mahboob Khan alleged that the federation was out to spoil the career of his son.
But Zulfiqar warned that the PSF was always going to act tough on disciplinary matters because such incidents were bad for the game’s image.
The PSF executive committee is scheduled to meet on May 28 and besides the Farhan-Rehmat incident will also discuss making changes to its rules of business.
“The other items on the agenda are all routine matters,” Zulfiqar said.
Meanwhile the PSF is continuing to focus on several of its projects as part of building and upgrading infrastructure.
Tenders for the renovation of the Liaquat Bagh Squash Complex in Rawalpindi that was rendered useless because of floods that hit the city some years ago are to be opened shortly.
Similarly renovation of existing courts in Quetta and the addition of a new complex there is also likely to begin soon while work on a project in Sukkur is already on.
