Pakistan spikers win final encounter

KARACHI, May 17: Pakistan overcame stiff resistance to inflict a straight 3-0 defeat on visiting Kazakhstan volleyball team and win the final encounter of the five-Test series 4-1 at the KPT Sports Complex on Tuesday. Pakistan romped home 25-23, 27-25, 25-22 in 65 minutes to wrap up the series on an impressive note.

Earlier, the home team had won at Islamabad, Wah and Peshawar before surrendering the Lahore match.

The teams contested the first set neck and neck until Pakistan secured an 18-17 lead.

From then on, the home spikers kept on enhancing their lead to win the opener 25-23.

In the next set, the tourists bounced back and came close to win, being tied at 20-20, 22-22, 24-24, but Pakistan recovered in time to chalk up a 27-25 victory.

The final set saw the two teams struggling for each point until 15-15. At that stage Pakistan engineered some good moves and thereby won the set 25-22 and the match.

The Kazakhs’ trip was part of preparation for the Asian Club championship and World qualifying rounds to be held next month.
