Tissera named as Sri Lanka manager

COLOMBO, May 17: Sri Lanka have appointed former player and chairman of selectors Michael Tissera as their new team manager. The 66-year-old takes over on a two-year term from Brendon Kuruppu, who was appointed as caretaker manager after the ICC Champions Trophy last year.

The board also appointed former chief executive Anura Tennekoon as their first full-time ‘A’ team manager for a similar period.

The move follows Sri Lanka’s desire for their ‘A’ team to play a continuous stream of series throughout the year to better prepare players for international cricket.

The next ‘A’ series will be a short tour by West Indies later this month. The senior side are next due to play in mid-July against West Indies in a two-Test home series.—Reuters
