Plea of former CS admitted

PESHAWAR, May 17: The Peshawar High Court on Tuesday admitted a writ petition of a former chief secretary of NWFP, Khalid Aziz, for full hearing. The petitioner had challenged rejection of his acquittal application under Section 265-K by the Accountability Court, Peshawar.

A division bench of the PHC, comprising Chief Justice Tariq Pervez Khan and Justice Talat Qayyum Saddique, issued a notice to deputy prosecutor-general of the NAB to explain the government’s position in the case.

The NAB had arrested the former chief secretary for allegedly accumulating assets disproportionate to his known sources of income and for issuing a bogus cheque, causing losses to the government.

The petitioner had submitted an application in the trial court, seeking his acquittal under Section 265-K, which was turned down by the court.—APP
