KARACHI: Foundation of model park laid

KARACHI, May 17: The City Nazim, Niamatullah Khan, on Monday laid the foundation of Chawla Model Park in Nazimabad — the second model park in Nazimabad UC-10. So far, the city government has developed 24 small parks in Nazimabad whereas work on 25 more is in progress. A total of 300 parks have been constructed all over the city.

Speaking on the occasion, the city nazim said efforts made for improving the infrastructure and making the city green have proved fruitful and people have largely appreciated it.

He said the projects of ‘Daman-i-Koh’ and ‘Gattar Baghicha’, when completed would be model parks in the country.

He said beautiful parks as developed in Karachi, cannot be found anywhere else in the country.

Mr Niamat recalled that when he took over as city nazim in 2001, the city had broken roads with garbage dumps in grounds. While the traffic and transport situation was also painful.

He said all roads of Karachi have been constructed anew while internal roads were also constructed with the cooperation of towns and union councils.

He told the gathering that before 2001, the city was in such a bad shape that people had become disappointed about its future. However, the city government had removed their disappointments and led the country on the path of development.

“What we need is that the city’s leadership should consider Karachi as its own city with all sincerity.”

He declared that the process of development started by the city government could only be continued by the present leadership, which was struggling by exercising principles of honesty and trust.

The city government has served Karachi as its own city and will continue to serve its cause, he declared.

QURAN PROGRAMME: The City Nazim, Niamatullah Khan, on Tuesday said admirers of Western culture should keep in mind that it had not given people peace of mind in any part of the world, as it lacked a family system, which was essential for the peace and well-being of society.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of a 10-day Fehm-ul-Quran programme, organized by the Dawaa Academy on Tuesday, he stressed the need for adhering to Islamic culture and values, as it was the only way that could lead towards peace and prosperity.

He said every Muslim should benefit from Fehm-ul-Quran programmes to understand the Quran in its true meaning and spirit.

He said it was more imperative to impart Quranic teachings to women, as educating one woman meant education of the whole family.

The city nazim later visited various sections of the Dawaa Academy, including the Islamic library.—APP/PPI
