KARACHI, May 16: Aggressive bounced back with 113 Victory Points (VPs) in the last two rounds to clinch the weekend Swiss bridge tournament at Aslam Bridge Hall on Sunday. Aggressive comprising Saleem Ahmed, Shahab Khan, cousins Asghar Abbas-Yawar Abbas started off with a winning draw against Zahoor, sharing 30 VPs equally.

Winsome fell victim to their aggression 25-1 followed by Ahmed-IV 23-7 who were leading the bunch in the third round.

Attackers emerged to the top with 57, but they too could not scuttle their winning run losing to them 25-3.

Candyland who had recovered by then and defeated Chandna 22-8, were completely routed out at the hands of Aggressive 25-0, a moral boosting win indeed. Mahmood-IV finished runners-up with 93 VPs. Shoaib Khan, Mahmood Naqvi, Dr Hashim and Noor Alam made up Mahmood-IV.

Mahmood Naqvi, Hashim and Noor Alam won four matches from Four Bidders Club 17-13, Zahoor 25-5, Ahmed-IV 23-7 and EFU 18-12. EFU finished third with a total score of 84 VPs they collected after winning three matches from Maq 23-7, Aces 16-14 and Alliance 21-9 but lost to Attackers 12-18 and Mahmood 12-18 VPs.

Mazhar Ali Khan, Hassan Sajjad, Hasnain and Rahimullah played for EFU.

In the pairs contest Hamid Mohiuddin-Ziaullah Baig, the winners of Friendship Pairs at Dhaka in the BFAME Zonal championship, stunned everyone by their performance 75.16%.

Iqbal Abedi-Yousuf Gheewala occupied second berth with 59.92% followed by Asghar Naqvi-Mahmood Naqvi 54.37%.

From the East-West direction Anwer Gheewala-Shahab Khan topped with 65.97 percent followed by Irfan Khan-Tanveer 61.23 and F A Naeem-Khalid Zaki 57.78%.—APP
