GUJRANWALA, May 16: The Food Department may not be able to achieve the wheat procurement target of 365,000 metric ton as commission agents, stockists and flour mill owners are offering better price to farmers. A senior food officer said here on Monday that the government had fixed Rs400 per maund the price of wheat.
He said the government had also set the wheat procurement target of 105,000 metric ton for Gujranwala, 145,000 metric ton for Sialkot and 70,000 metric ton for Gujrat districts. But the Food department could procure so far 69,000, 29,000 and 16 metric tonnes of wheat from these district, respectively.
He said that commission agents, stockists and flour mill owners were buying wheat from farmers at the rate of Rs430 to Rs450 per maund.
He expressed the hope that the government would adopt some solid measures to achieve the wheat procurement target.
