Book on Sindhi literature launched

By Our Correspondent

SUKKUR, May 15: A large number of writers and poets from all over Sindh participated in the launching ceremony of a book, “Modern Sindh, Trends and Prospects” by Syed Mazhar Jamil, at the press club on Sunday. Anwar Haider Zaidi, senior member of the Sindh Board of Revenue presided over the gathering.

District Nazim Nasir Hussain Shah and DCO Shafique Khoso carried out the book launching ceremony.

Sindhi and Urdu writers Muslim Shamim, Fatah Malik, Dr Adal Soomro, Prof Ayaz Gul, Dr Anis, Dr Khalid Chandio and Dr Sagar Abro spoke on the occasion.

They said the book was beautiful collection of modern, classical and traditional Sindhi literature which had specially been compiled for those Urdu-speaking writers, poets and intellectuals who lack understanding of Sindh and Sindhi language.

They said the works done by Sindhi writers and poets could not be compiled in a book containing 16,000 pages but Mazhar Jamil had done a great job by doing much in a book comprising 1,600 pages.

They lauded the hectic efforts done by the writer for collecting the work done by Sindhi writers and poets including Shah Latif Bhittai and Sachal Sarmast and others.

They said the book would not only be helpful in bridging the gap between the Sindhis and Urdu-speaking writers, poets and intellectuals but also prove a good omen for coexistence.

Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, DCO Shafique Khoso and Anwar Haider Zaidi commended the work done by Mazhar Jamil.

They urged the writers, poets and intellectuals to establish a writers’ forum comprising of Sindhi and Urdu writers, poets and intellectuals at the local level.

They said the offices would be provided for the purpose, while every possible help in this regard would also be provided.

The writer said he took the work as a challenge as he was not an authority on Sindhi literature but he tried his level best to enclose the entire work done by the Sindhi writers, poets and intellectuals.

He said the book might contain lapses but he had highlighted the works of all Sindhi writers and poets.
