KARACHI: CS, IG asked to look into principal’s killing case

KARACHI, May 15: The president’s secretariat has asked the Sindh chief secretary and IGP to look into the killing of Dr Saleem Chaudhry, who was principal of Dawood College of Engineering and Technology. He was killed in Karachi on March 25.
In separate communications to both the officials, Lt-Col Sheikh Mohammad Jaffer Iqbal, Director A-1 of the secretariat, has asked them to send an interim reply to the principal’s widow, Simeen Saleem, who has sought the president’s help, with in a week and intimate the secretariat.
A final report may be sent to the secretariat as soon as the matter is resolved and if it is not finalized within a month, the secretariat may be furnished reports indicating status of the action taken in the case on a monthly basis till it is resolved, according to the communications.
In her plea submitted to the president, Mrs Saleem has complained that her husband was killed on March 25, but no serious efforts have so far been made by local police to track down the culprits. She has also pointed out that despite being subjected to constant murder threats over the past two years, her husband remained steadfast in his determination to carry on his mission to uproot corruption in the college and impart quality education to students.
She has urged the president to order the setting up of a stronger investigation team to bring those involved in the killing of her husband to task.
Meanwhile, talking to Dawn on Sunday, Mrs Saleem said that police had not yet contacted her despite being directed by the president’s secretariat to do so. She described the attitude of police as ‘unfortunate’.
