KARACHI: CS takes notice of water shortage

KARACHI, May 15: The Chief Secretary, Fazal-ur-Rahman, has taken serious notice of reported water scarcity in various areas of Karachi and Hyderabad. According to the Sindh government sources, the chief secretary has asked the KWSB and WASA to take urgent measures and ease the plight of citizens of the two major cities of the province.

While seeking steps to ascertain the actual cause of water shortage in the cities, he has also asked officials of both agencies to ensure that factors contributing to the situation were addressed on a lasting basis, so that citizens faced no more inconvenience.

Responding to news reports of constant water leakages and frequent power failures, hampering smooth power supply to water pumping stations, the chief secretary asked the authorities to arrange for generators and other alternatives so that water supply was not effected.

He instructed that a gap system be adopted to avoid any lacunae or unequal distribution of water supply.—APP
