Savabeel on course for third straight victory
KARACHI, May 14: Murtaza R. Hussain who owns a string of well bred horses, should have another victory on Sunday afternoon, when his three-year-old bay filly Savabeel is on song to complete her hat trick of triumphs, at the Winter Gymkhana Race Meeting at the Karachi Racecourse.
In the sixth race going over five furlongs, 17 runners are in contention. However, the speedy Savabeel should pass the winning post chased all the way by Deniro and top weight Summer Wine.
All in all eight events have been chalked up for the afternoon’s programme with the first race beginning at 2.00 p.m.
In the opener, the thoroughbred bay horse National Lining, not allowed to run on merit last week and later warned severely by the racing administration, should hack the opposition going over five furlongs, with Piyari Mehbooba, another runner not allowed to run on merit finishing second, with Prosmatic grabbing the third spot.
Jaguar, a seven year-old bay horse is tracking extremely in the morning workouts and looks a likely winner against the roan horse Tom Cruise, with Sea Biscuit finishing third in the next event.
Canon Ball, a bay four-year-old colt owned by Syed Ali Gohar Shah, finishing second in his last two starts, should make amends and sprint to victory followed home by Azam The Great and My Yanga in the third.
With a good lad in the saddle, the four-year-old filly Smiling Face should pick up the spoils in the fourth, with Desperado and Hazoom following the filly home in her wake, in a big field of 18 runners.
The next race looks well reserved for the swift bay three-year-old colt Leopard, registering two winners in a row for his owner, with Flying Bird edging out Issey Miyake in the last few strides in the fifth race on the afternoon’s programme.
The roan horse Birj-ul-Arab, second behind stable companion Safeena-e-Arab last week, will get his turn to win on Sunday, with Noor-e-Arab and Tharkyee in close contention going over six furlongs.
Wonder Thunder has been knocking on the door for a winner in his last two starts.
However, the six-year-old bay horse owned and trained by M. Yaqoob Butt, should find the six furlong journey much to his liking, sprinting in from behind to collar last week’s popular winner Safeena-e-Arab and Aie Bahar, with six victories on the trot already under her belt in the concluding event.
