MQM accused of depriving local people of jobs
HYDERABAD, May 14: Leaders of the People’s Party Parliamentarians and nationalist parties have criticized the resolution of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement regarding appointment of people in multinational companies according to their domicile certificates.
In a joint statement faxed to Dawn here on Friday, the deputy opposition leader in the Sindh Assembly Makhdoom Jamiluzzaman, Ali Nawaz Shah Rizvi, and Sassui Palijo condemned the adoption of the resolution in the Sindh Assembly and termed it anti-Sindh.
They said anti-Sindh thinking of the members sitting on the government benches had been fully exposed.
They said instead of pursuing the Sindh Assembly’s resolution against Kalabagh dam and greater Thal canal, indigenous population of Sindh was being deprived of their inherent right of employment.
They said on the one hand districts of Sindh were being bifurcated, ancient villages were being demolished in Karachi and the Sindhis were being compelled to migrate from their ancestral homes and on the other three million illegal immigrants were being given Pakistani nationality.
They said this proved that there were two Pakistans, one of the rulers who were meting out step-motherly treatment to provinces and the other comprising of oppressed people whose voice was neither heard by the federal government nor by the provincial government.
The PPP leaders said the anti-Sindh resolution moved by the MQM was clear proof of the fact that it had entered into an agreement with the establishment that it would not raise its voice on the floor of the assembly against the Kalabagh dam, Thal canal and NFC award.
They demanded that free, fair and transparent general elections should be held during the current year so that real representatives of the province could be elected to defend the rights of Sindh.
Awami Tehrik chief Rasool Bux Palijo said the resolution had deprived the Sindhis living in villages and towns of Sindh of getting employment in multinational companies mostly in Karachi.
In a statement, he said this unconstitutional resolution had fully exposed the ruling clique of the province.
Mr Palijo said the “Jinnahpuri” group was trying to destroy 5000-year-old history of Sindh and take over the resources of the province.
He said the Sindhi nation was united and it would foil all conspiracies to undermine the integrity of Pakistan.
Sindh Taraqi Pasand Party chairman Dr Qadir Magsi in a statement said the resolution moved by Kanwar Naveed was aimed at depriving the Sindhis from getting employment in the multinational companies and other industrial units of Karachi.
He said in order to perpetuate themselves in power the rulers had given a licence to the MQM to implement its anti-Sindh scheme.
Mr Magsi said Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim was chief minister only in name while the MQM was the de facto ruler of Sindh.
He said the Governor’s House had become a centre of conspiracies against Sindh and the Sindhis.
