GILGIT, May 14: The ruling Pakistan Muslim League Northern Areas President Abdul Wahid has alleged that some government employees are indulging in sectarian-oriented politics in the area and there is no check on their undesirable activities. He called for purging the government departments of such elements to restore peace in the region.

Talking to reporters Mr Wahid said no action had been taken so far against the government employees who spearheaded the election campaigns of the sectarian groups in October last year and thus had gained firm roots in the local politics.

“The administration took no action despite the fact that I clearly revealed their names to the higher officials and even today I can furnish the names of the government servants embroiled in this mess”, Mr Wahid said.

The PML leader said some of the employees were active members and office-bearers of the banned sectarian outfits and there could be no durable peace in the region if these employees working for the sectarian groups are not purged of the departments.

He blamed some employees for misguiding the masses and mis-briefing the clerics just to meet their personal interest including promotions, transfer to desired stations and to whitewash their corruption.

“You can see a number of government employees playing advisory roles in the main mosques all the time but no body dare question them for violating government service rules, he observed.

He claimed that he was ever ready to identify the employees involved in sectarian-based maneuverings and they were stationed at one station for the past 10 to 20 years.

In reply to a question he lauded the role of the Northern Areas deputy chief executive, Northern Areas Legislative Council speaker, deputy speaker, and members for restoring peace in the city.

Responding to another question he said he is the undisputed president of PML in the region.
