KARACHI, May 14: Sindh Home Minister Rauf Siddiqi on Saturday issued directive that all heavy traffic including large size buses, trucks, tankers and long vehicles would move only in one lane on major roads like Sharea Pakistan, Shershah Suri Road and Garden Road.
He issued the directive in a meeting with senior police officers including DIG Traffic and SSPs of various traffic zones. He said overtaking by such vehicles and their speed beyond the prescribed one would be strictly prohibited.
The home minister appealed to the people that in case no traffic police or area police was there at the time of a road accident, they should catch the driver and hand him over to the police so that necessary legal proceedings could be initiated against him.
Rauf Siddiqi warned owners of commercial vehicles to employ only experienced and licensed drivers and ensure that they were not addicts. In case, a driver was caught and found an addict, the concerned owner would be held responsible for the same. He said if a driver ran away after the accident, the vehicle owner would be held responsible who must have all details of his driver.
Legally, he pointed out, every driver must carry public service badge issued by the driving licence branch.
He said that every commercial vehicle must be insured with a credible insurance company. He said strict action would be taken against the owner if he was found in possession of a fake insurance certificate.
He said it had come into observation that no compensation was paid to injured or dead in an accident because the insurance company came out as fake.—APP
