KARACHI: Hasrat Mohani remembered


KARACHI, May 14: The 54th death anniversary of a revolutionary poet and communist sympathizer, Syedul Ehrar Maulana Hasrat Mohani, was observed here at the Arts Council on Friday evening. The evening, titled “Bazam-i-Kehkashan” was organized by Daira-i-Adab-o-Sakafat and Hasrat Mohani Memorial Trust. Governor Dr. Ishratul Ibad and a number of renowned intellectuals, including Dr. Farman Fatehpuri, attended the function.

Speakers hailed Maulana Hasrat for his commitment with ideological approach and deterrence against the British rule, which sent him to prison three times in 1908, 1916 and 1921.

They remembered Maulana’s political will to represent the poor of the Subcontinent and his revolutionary poetry that provoked a rebellious wave among millions of peoples.

Maulana was subjected to atrocities but it only intensified his poetry, they said and added his legacy of going against all odds would continue till the end of time. It was observed due to Hasrat Mohani’s far-sightedness, he had laid foundations for communism in India after Russian Revolution.

They said he represented a true figure of Muslim, who refused to accept foreign oppression, rule and culture and protested against dominion status of the Subcontinent.

Governor Ishratul Ibad, Farman Fatheh Puri, Farooq Sattar, Raeesa Mohani, Zafar Mohiu-ddin, Asfar Rizvi and Muslim Shameem were main speakers.

Messages of PM Shaukat Aziz, MQM Chief Altaf Hussain, Governor Balochistan, CM Punjab were also read out on the occasion.—PPI
