LAHORE, May 13: Raheela Bano of Wapda made a clean sweep winning all the four gold medals on the first day of the National women cycling championship at the National Velodrome on Friday. Raheela, 19, achieved another feat by improving her timing in all the events. She won the first race in 500m time trial clocking 42.42 seconds. She had timed 42.44 seconds last year.
Her team-mate Ayesha Amin covered the distance in 45.88 seconds to claim silver medal.
Wapda, who faced little resistance after Army did not field their team, earned a second gold medal through Raheela in one km individual sprint. Raheela clocked 14.47 seconds improving her last year’s timing of 15.56 seconds.
Aneela Ayub of Sui Southern Gas won the first medal (silver) for her team, clocking 15.61 seconds followed by Misbah Mushtaq (Wapda) who was third with 15.94 seconds.
Raheela was again instrumental in giving Wapda its third gold in the three km team pursuit. Wapda comprising Ayesha, Ghazala, Misbah and Raheela clocked four minutes 34.41 seconds to win. The team improved last year’s Army’s record of five minutes 15.84 seconds.
In the last event of the day, Raheela completed the tally winning first in three km individual race clocking four minutes 36.35 seconds. She had timed four minutes 53 seconds last year.
Wapda’s Misbah clocked four minutes 48 seconds to win silver medal while Aneela (Sui Gas) finished third covering the distance in five minutes 17.64 seconds.
